San Francisco and the Southwest / Pacific Nations region played host to the IGBO Mid-Year Tournament on November 9-14, 2016. Nearly 300 bowlers participated from 25 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
With local volunteers from San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento, the host committee treated visiting bowlers to a hotel pool party, late-night hospitality suites, pub crawls in the world-famous Castro district, a free Storm bowling clinic, and a walking tour of some San Francisco city sights. Several bowlers who stayed through Monday also enjoyed an excursion to three wineries in Sonoma wine country.
As is custom at all Mid-Year tournaments, the IGBABE competition was held following the awards banquet. Marcus Li from Atlanta proved to be a most able and very funny emcee, and Miss Liquordale Oasis from Florida was crowned the winner.
This tournament had at least one innovation: it was the first to feature a smartphone app designed exclusively for the tournament. Bowlers were able to customize the event schedule, view pictures and video, and receive real-time communication updates.
The tournament committee would like to thank all the tournament volunteers, who donated time, talent, and energy in putting on a fantastic tournament. See everyone in Fort Lauderdale in May!
