If you’re reading this article, welcome to the new IGBO website! I would like to thank Rob Silliman, Bill Roman, the entire TISC committee past and present for all the countless hours of hard work put into this project.
This year marks the 38th year of IGBO's existence and as I sit here to write my article, I start to remember all the friends I've gained in my life since I began bowling in an IGBO league in 1986. In those days we bowled to stay out of the bars during the weekdays and it was place to socialize with the gay community, I’m not saying we didn't drink at the alley on a Wednesday night's. If you ever questioned what IGBO has done for you just look back at the beginning when you joined an IGBO league, or bowled in an IGBO tournament and remember the people you met, the conversations you had and also introducing yourself to bowlers on the lanes for the first time without knowing any of them. I was that person many years ago. IGBO has not only given me the chance to enjoy the sport of bowling but has given me much more -Friends.
This past November IGBO Mid-Year 2017 was held in Oklahoma City, I would like to recognize Homer Cobb, Jerry Nailon and the entire committee for a job well done. While in OKC during the general membership meeting our IGBO members voted in seven new leagues into the organization: CT Pride Bowlers (Wallingford, CT),Asheville Pride Bowling (Asheville, NC),Bowl United (Orlando, FL), Easy Pickups (San Diego, CA),Flaming Pins (St. Louis, MO),Heartland LGBT Tuesday (Omaha, NE),Heartland LGBT Sunday (Omaha, NE).Also voted in were 138 new associate members.I will also like to congratulate Steve Mathis from College Park, Maryland for being awarded the Tom Hack Award for his service to the IGBO organization.
The IGBO organization has agreed to continue our relations with Storm Bowling Products through the year 2020 solidifying, a 19year partnership. In addition, a vendor agreement with High Five Gear (H5G) has been signed for co-branded IGBO/Storm jerseys, which are available on the IGBO website for purchase. I would like to thank Curtis Martin and Rob McDaniel from the Marketing & Sponsorship committee for their continued hard work and support.
I would like to close by saying thank you for your support, patience and input. It is truly an honor and my pleasure to serve as your president. If there is anything the board and I can do to help make your experience into IGBO more meaningful and rewarding, please don't hesitate to ask.
