Tournament Average Information for Bowlers and Tournament Committees
Republished from January 2006 IGBO Newsletter
January 2006—
Occasionally I get emails from bowlers who
would want like a copy of their tournament
results – or just want to know their tournament
averages. This information is available
to everyone via the IGBO website
(www.igbo.org). A different mechanism is
available to tournament committees for finding
and verifying tournament averages. I’ll
describe both below. First the on-line system
that can be used by any IGBO bowler:
As a condition of membership in IGBO, tournaments
are required to report bowlers’ scores
within 30 days of the close of the tournament.
This information is stored in the Tournament
Average Database - or “TAD” and made available
on line. To retrieve your results – all you
need to know is your birthday and how to spell
your last name!
Go to www.igbo.org and select the option “Get
Tournament Average” from the “Tournaments”
menu.
This will bring you to the entry screen where
you simply type your last name followed by
your month and day of birth. (Remember to
use two digits for each of the numbers. If
your birthday is on April 7th, use 04 and 07.)
Don’t include any spaces or punctuation. If
your last name is Smith and your birthday is
May 9th, type “Smith0509”. (By the way, this
combination of birthday information and last
name is your “IGBO ID” number.)
Some things to note about this information:
- Quality – the information only reflects what has been reported. If you find an error – please let us know and we’ll do our best to fix it.
- Completeness and accuracy – not all of your tournament results may be displayed. If the tournament hasn’t yet reported results – we can’t display them. If you and/or the tournament don’t report your birthday – or your name is misspelled – it is likely that your results won’t show up properly.
- Currency - We keep about twelve month’s worth of data in the database.
Tournament committees have a different average lookup tool at their disposal. It is called the TAD Viewer. The TAD Viewer is a software program that is installed on the tournament’s computer. The user of the Viewer must download a current version of the TAD database (tournament results) from
the IGBO website. The database is usually updated monthly.
TAD Viewer provides some lookup capabilities
that are not available to the individual
bowler on-line. For example, the TAD Viewer
user can scroll through a list of names (this is
useful when tournament application penmanship
is at the first-grade level), look up a bowler
by last name, IGBO ID, or organization ID
(like WIBC, ABC, USBC or CTF number).
In addition to these lookup mechanisms, the
TAD Viewer can be set up to display results
for a certain period of time. For example, if a
tournament is to be held on April 1st, typically,
only scores for the previous 12 months are
required. This time frame can be set and only
appropriate results and averages are displayed.
Following is the lookup screen from the TAD
Viewer.
Using this tool simplifies and speeds average
verification. Using this software can eliminate
the need for individual bowlers to record and
report all of their scores to tournaments.
However – it is always the bowler’s responsibility
to verify the accuracy of this information
and report any errors or discrepancies.
If you have any questions about the Tournament
Average Database, please contact me at
(what else?!?) tournament-avgs@igbo.org.
Tournament committees who would like a copy
of the TAD Viewer should also contact me at
