Archives Committee Report

By Gerald Hagen—IGBO Archives Committee Chair
Republished from April 2006 IGBO Newsletter

April 2006— The 25th Celebration in Milwaukee was an exciting milestone for us all. The membership and participants responded so well to our history presentation with support and with there own personal contributions. Phillip Kensley of Aukland contributed his 1st. Place trophy from the IGBO Midyear tournament there in 2002. Dick Uyvari of Chicago contributed his trophies from IGBO’s 1st tournament here in Houston in 1981. Thanks to all whom have shared their memorabilia wish us.

We are planning a condensed version of our 25th presentation in Milwaukee with a few surprises relating IGBO’s history to bowling, to the G&L community, and to entertainment reminding us of the good times of the past. We learned in Milwaukee on how we can provide an interesting and enjoyable presentation versatile enough to adapt to our hosting city’s accommodations for our “traveling road show” of the organization’s memories and history that you have all so graciously shared with us.

We are in the process of “rounding up the troops” of the Archives Committee to work on more digital projects and presentations where we can continue to expand upon our library of fun times and historical moments. We welcome any contributions (such as photographs and thoughts) by email to Archives, especially from our more recent events. Please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas with us. My email address is gjhoutx@earthlink.net.

If you send photographs, just include a short caption and identify people in the photographs. With your contributions, we can expand upon future presentations at IGBO’s future events. In Kansas City, we will have some items on display and an inventory listing of all contributions to Archives recognizing those who have done so and to encourage members to contribute those items we don’t have.

We look forward to sharing in all of the fun with you in Kansas City!
