San Diego Looking to Host Mid-Year 2008

By Jim Cross—IGBO Mid-Year MMVI(2006) Secretary
Republished from April 2006 IGBO Newsletter

April 2005—For many San Diego bowlers the action of the Winter Olympics and Oscar races were a welcome diversion to the real life competition playing out on the bowling lanes. As the Easy Pick Ups, Pride Rollers, High Rollers and Rainbow leagues enter the final stretch of the winter season, everyone now looks to the April sweeps to see which teams will walk away with tears or cheers.

All the while everyone keeps an eye to the future, more specifically to Mid Year 2006 in Detroit as San Diego bids for Mid Year 2008! Work continues behind the scenes preparing a bid package that will win your vote to bring everyone back to San Diego in 2008. Leading this dedicated team are Yogi Rusk, Larry Sanchez, and Ron Suttora Jr. The San Diego Invitational Tournament is taking a break this year to avoid conflicting with Gay Games and focus our efforts on the big brass ring of Mid Year 2008. SDIT will return in 2007, giving everyone a chance to try out the lanes you will be competing on the following year (should our 2008 bid win).

On Saturday April 8th The Palm Springs Desert Invitational Classic and San Diego Mid Year bidding city committees will host a 40 Frame Tournament Fundraiser at Fantasy Springs Lanes in Indio. Entry is $35 per person sign ups begin at noon and bowling at 1 PM. Contact Michael Klauza or Tino Dang for details.
