IGBO Mid-Year 2006—It’s A License To Come Party With Us
By Jim Cross—IGBO Mid-Year MMVI(2006) Secretary Republished from April 2006 IGBO Newsletter
April 2005—Detroit is revved up and ready to welcome you all
to our city in November and we will do our best to
make sure you have a great time.
Our committee has been working hard to get ready
for the tournament. We have sold Super Bowl
squares, Survivor squares, Drag Show with a pie in
the face auction, and a Survivor no-tap tournament.
Each of our committee members is working
hard to come up with different fundraisers
that will entertain people and help us raise money
for the tournament. The community of Detroit
has been very supportive of our fundraisers and
the tournament.
The Sheraton Detroit Novi is our host hotel for
IGBO Mid-year 2006. It is an upscale Three-
Diamond hotel with 238 newly renovated guest
rooms featuring the Sheraton Sleeper Bed. It is
located only 25 minutes from downtown Detroit
as well as 10 minutes from the host bowling alley.
Being only 25 minutes from the airport is a plus as
well. Several malls are just minutes away for those
that like to shop. The price is right too at just
$79/night for 1-4 people, not to mention the parking
is free. The hotel itself also has many activities
and amenities like a whirlpool, sauna, heated pool,
and wireless internet connections in all rooms.
Clover Lanes, our host bowling alley, has 64 lanes
and is easy to get to from the hotel. It is located
right off of I-96 between Inkster and Middlebelt.
We will be able to accommodate all the bowlers
with just two shifts. The team event will be on
Friday and the Singles and Doubles will be on
Saturday. Those that make it to the Scratch Masters
will be bowling on Sunday. The wood lanes
have been known to have big scores bowled on
them in the past.
As part of our tournament, we are going to have in
addition to the scratch brackets, optional handicap
brackets. These brackets will be divided into
a men’s bracket and a women’s bracket. There is
no telling how much money you could win at our
tournament.
Detroit has many things to offer everyone including
4 casinos (three in the USA and one in
Canada), the Henry Ford Museum, and the
( Mid-Year 2006 - continued from page 1 ) Motown Historical Museum. Also we are only
a hop, skip and a jump from Canada our neighbors
to the North. With the variety of bars in
Detroit, you’re sure to find one you like. We
are planning a casino trip for those that like to
gamble. This could give you even more chances
to win big in Detroit whether you bowl well or
not.
Mark your calendars now and join us for a fun
time in Detroit, the Motor City, for IGBO
Mid-Year 2006, November 9-12.
Thanks,
Jim Cross
