9/15/05 Update from Sharon Stump, IGBO President: "The requests are coming in for our assistance. Two bowlers' home was 3 blocks from a broken levy. They still have not been able to visit their home and are currently living in another part of Louisiana. Another bowler has been evacuated to Memphis. His home was flooded ruining all furniture and personal possessions. Another bowler has asked if we will help his immediate family in Gulfport who has lost everything. You came to us and asked what can we do. Now we have reached out and people are wanting our help. We Need Donations! Every little bit helps but currently we have not received anything. Please don't abandon this project. I'm sure we are going to be asked for much more and we will only be able to assist with your help. Talk to your league, talk to your friends. These are not faceless people we do not know. These are our fellow IGBO members who have been to your tournament or you have been to theirs. These victims are our friends and they need to be able to count on us."

9/12/05 Update from Sharon Stump, IGBO President: "We have heard from 4 bowlers including Joey LeBlanc, who is working on contacting all bowlers in the area. He will pass on the information regarding IGBO's relief efforts for financial assistance and housing opportunities. The bowlers are very touched by the generosity and caring being offered to them by our community. I will keep you informed as I hear more."

The following is a message from IGBO Fundraising Chair, Todd Denmark

On behalf of the IGBO Board, we are asking for YOUR help now. It is not IGBO's policy to solicit this way and not to worry, it is only being used in these dire circumstances. I am sending this out to everyone since many of you have expressed concern and wishes to help out, especially as an organization.

IGBO is going to try to target its relief efforts to bowlers in need. The IGBO board is setting up a special committee to handle the appropriation of funds to help all who have been affected and you can help make a difference as to how successful we will be.

Many of our bowlers were severely impacted by the recent hurricane. We are asking that all leagues, tournaments and individuals consider raising funds to help these fellow IGBO members. Leagues and tournaments may use any method possible to raise funds (as simple as someone going around collecting money from each bowler that would like to help, 50-50 raffles, etc), and individuals may make direct donations to the relief fund through IGBO.

Note: We are not sure what "items" can be donated at this time, and we do not currently have the means to collect physical items yet. People who would like to donate clothes, linens, food, etc. should save items until we are prepared to collect them.

All monetary donations will be set aside in a special account and distributed as we hear back from our bowlers in need. If this fund raising effort is successful and we have money left over, we will donate the remaining funds to the Red Cross or other gay relief organizations in the area in the name of the International Gay Bowling Organization.

Donations can be sent by check, cashiers/bank check, money order, or Visa/MasterCard. All donations must be earmarked specifically for the relief fund, submitted with required form (see above), and forwarded to the IGBO Treasurer, Reggie Ware. Donations are also tax deductible. Please refer to the donation form for more information.

We will keep you informed as to the outcome of our efforts. We know everyone is concerned and we appreciate the love, kindness and sharing extended to all of those in need.

In unity, fellowship and communication,

Todd Denmark

The following is a message from IGBO President, Sharon Stump

Dear IGBO Members,

I want to thank so many of you who have contacted different members of the Executive Board wanting to know how you could help our bowlers affected by Hurricane Katrina. IGBO has set up a relief fund that will specifically target our "bowling family" in need and aid them financially as we can. Todd Denmark, Chair of Fundraising, has sent out information to reps and also arranged for information to be posted on our Web site.

Most people in New Orleans and other towns along the coast line have lost everything. If you can offer housing, a car, a job, we appreciate it. I know this family and I know we are going to make a difference to this community. Your love and support have been felt; now let's see what else we can do.

We have only heard from a couple of New Orleans bowlers so far. I hope as individuals hear from others, you will pass along the information to the rest of us. One easy way is through IGBOeInfo@yahoogroups.com. As you speak to the victims, please let them know we are organizing the collection of funds and other donations for their needs but we need to know how to contact them. They may contact me by phone or e-mail.

Once again, thank you for being the caring group that you are.

In Unity, Fellowship and Communication,

Sharon Stump
