Midwest Welcome from Chicago Pride Invitational

By Michael Frantz
Republished from October 2006 IGBO Newsletter

October 2006— While the city of “big shoulders” traditionally dyes its Chicago river green for St. Patrick’s Day, the Chicago Pride Invitational Bowling and Scratch Masters Tournaments (CPI) changes the color of the “community” that weekend. It’s green with “envy and cash” for the one hundred forty-four (144) GLBT visiting bowlers from around the country who attended our 18th Annual Chicago Pride Invitational tournament held March 10-12 2006.

The CPI 2006 Committee worked together until we were certain our tournament was one not to be forgotten: assuring green with envy!

From our NEW host hotel - The Lincoln Park Days Inn - located steps from the lakefront and “boystown,” our Opening party “under the tent” held at Scot’s., and who could forget the Saturday night Bar Crawl. Finishing with an Open Bar at our Sunday’s Awards Ceremony held at Sidetrack, where we gave away over $30,000 in prize fund and cash raffles.

CPI is sponsored in part by the GLBT bowling community of Chicago –Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association (CMSA), Windy City Athletic Association (WCAA), Lincoln Park Lagooners (LPL), and the CMSA bowlers’ support through the 50/50 raffles on Fridays. A total of $90,000 has been donated to both AIDS-related and Women’s Cancer Programs since its inception.

The bowling was fierce and competitive at times, however, everyone had a fun time with “Bo-Bo” the fairy and “Lucky” the leprechaun always fluttering around somewhere.

We look forward to greeting our CPI 2007 tournament guests and dare them to, “Go Ahead, Get Lucky” at the 19th Annual Chicago Pride Invitational Bowling and Scratch Masters Tournaments. CPI promises to provide you with yet another unforgettable “green with envy” weekend. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at www.CPI-Chicago.org or cpichicago2006@yahoo.com
