IGBO Treasurer's Report

IGBO Treasurer Report

Wow! Here it is March already and things still are moving at a frantic pace. Do Board members get any vacation time? It seems like just last week we were getting Oklahoma City finalized and here it is, time for Atlanta to strut their stuff!

The big thing this year is the addition of PayPal to the registration for IGBO Annual 2008- Atlanta. I was forewarned by my esteemed predecessor about all the hassles with credit card entries. I was not prepared for the red tape I had to untangle to get the PayPal account functional. In reality, PayPal is quite simple once things are set up properly, but getting to that point was just short of a nightmare. To make a long story short, we had an issue where a PayPal auditor took it upon himself to change our IGBO business account into a personal account under my name without notifying me. The site was shut down for nearly two weeks while things were being re-established and verified. For those inconvenienced, I apologize, but now that things have been sorted out, everything seems to be running smoothly. If anyone, would like to hear my opinion on the future of a partnership between IGBO and PayPal, I would be happy to bend your ear for an hour or two. Suffice to say, Atlanta seems to going full bore towards the Memorial Day Weekend. I look forward to revisiting the Southern Hospitality I have always received on my many visits to Atlanta.

In January, Jim Tsugawa of the audit committee paid me a visit to go over plans to simplify our accounting process in Quickbooks. We came up with a few new solutions to some of our reporting and budget issues. I will have a more complete report on this during our Annual Meeting in Atlanta. I will be going to Washington, DC in early May to complete my second audit and to adjust any other issues we may have with the Quickbooks accounting. It will be nice to see all my friends back home in DC for the week.

Speaking of DC, the board has been diligently going over the bid proposals from DC and Columbus for IGBO 2010. It should be a fun competition between two cities that really know how to entertain guests. I can’t wait to see the presentations at the General Meeting.

While all of this has been going on, other things have been occupying my copious free time. The Multi-city Tournament has been completed and the results and checks are being processed. The Multi-city Raffle has begun, of the move from Todd Denmark. Tournament Part 2 dues have been steadily popping into my mail box. And Tournaments have been busy obtaining their Storm certificates from Rob McDaniel. Rob does a fantastic job maintaining our relationship with Storm, but we all can make things a lot easier by getting our tournament requests into him for processing in a timely fashion. There is a lot to do to get the certificates and payments processed. Please give us more than a week or two to get things reconciled. We thank you in advance.

Also, now is time that tournaments become a monthly habit. My trip to Tucson was wonderful! The Chuzapalooza Committee did a wonderful job on their inaugural tournament and I can’t wait to see how they out-do themselves next year. It’ll be interesting to see how San Jose in April and Albuquerque in September perform with their first time events. It seems that with these three new tournaments, Mid year in San Diego and numerous other events in the region, my bowling shoes will get a lot of wear this season. The West Coast is the place to be for a wonderful tournament experience.

So far, my experience as Treasurer has been entertaining, educational and enlightening. And while things have been overwhelming at times, I hope I have not neglected anyone’s needs or issues. I am always available and receptive to comments or concerns.

Submitted again for your approval.
