Greetings from the Heartland and I hope you all had a safe, successful and satisfying summer. Before I begin with my regional ramblings I would like to introduce myself. My name is Rich Kraemer and I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. I am a 9th and 12th grade social studies teacher during the school year and an assistant in the pro shop of a private golf club in Cincinnati during the summer. I currently reside in Dayton, Ohio w/ my partner of four years and our two miniature schnauzers. My decision to run for Regional Director was a matter of timing in my personal and professional life, the encouragement of close friends and my supportive partner, my family and the inspiration and example set by two former Regional Directors in Doug Goff and Rick Harrelson. Rick and Doug continuously displayed contagious enthusiasm for IGBO and for the sport of bowling while maintaining an infectious sense of humor and laugh. I will strive to apply my own twist on their inspirational qualities to IGBO and, most of all to our region.

Following my election as Regional Director back in May I attended a very successful and enthusiastically attended TGIF tournament in Indianapolis. My hat goes off to the TGIF committee for a wonderful job. I owe the hospitality crew major kudos for my learning Texas Holdem, the gang from St. Louis for taking my money and the bar tenders for my not really caring about the loss. Previous summer engagements made prior to my election as Regional kept me from attending MCIT in Nashville but I heard that a fabulous time was had by all. Richard Beswick and the rest of the MCIT committee did an outstanding job of recruiting me and many of my Dayton friends for MICT 2006. I also had to miss the Maple Leaf Classic in Toronto. I understand from many reliable sources that it was one of their best birthday parties yet and I will not miss their next celebration in 2006. Pat Bottrall of Grand Rapids, Michigan had 300 perfect candles on his bowling cake. Congrats go out to Pat for his outstanding game and Maple Leaf ’s first 300 in tournament history.

Grand Rapids has much to celebrate this year. I am pleased to announce Earl Haney as one of the two Fellowship Award winners given out at IGBO Annual in Milwaukee. This award is very prestigious and special to all in the IGBO organization. Earl is a good friend and a credit to IGBO and to our region. Please give him a pat on the back next time you see him and thank him for all his dedication and hard work in Southern Michigan, our region and IGBO. I would also like to congratulate my good friend Jerry Sesco of Columbus, Ohio for his nomination for the Fellowship 2005 award. Jerry’s hard work and dedication to Columbus bowling and to the COMIC tournament prove that he was a very worthy nominee.

My theme and slogan for this two year term will be “Welcome Home to the Heartland” and I plan on including that statement in each and every regional remark I make at each and every tournament I attend. I also introduced North American Heartland table tents at the bowling ally in Indianapolis during the three bowling events. I intend to promote our tournaments throughout the region and give an extra plug for the hard work and dedication that the tournament committees in our Heartland put forth. I also hope to increase the visibility of our great region within IGBO itself. Fund raising ideas to support the Quilt Fund and future bidding cities in our region, a multi city challenge to support Detroit’s IGBO MidYear 2006 and the organization of a regional web site.

Speaking of MidYear 2006…… Make plans now to attend a very special MidYear in our very own region. Detroit is up and running with plans to rival their own hugely successful MIC tournament held in early October every year. The Detroit MidYear 2006 committee is hard at work to bring you the very best that the Motor City has to offer. Expect a rocking hospitality suite, a kick ass hotel and a top notch bowling event from this dedicated and enthusiastic committee. I want to see our region well represented and hope that we can promote our region, our outstanding tournaments and the fantastic leagues and bowlers we have.

I know that I will be busy promoting our region and hope you will get involved and help out as well. Look for me in the coming months at these outstanding tournaments in our area and our region.

  • Show Me Classic in St. Louis over Labor Day
  • Weekend
  • GLASSIC in Toledo the weekend of September
  • 23rd through the 25th
  • MIC in Detroit during the weekend of October
  • 7th through the 9th
  • DOIT in Dayton over Halloween weekend
  • MidYear 2005 in Calgary during the week of
  • November 9th
  • HIT in Milwaukee over Thanksgiving Weekend

I will be busy and I hope you remain active and enthusiastic in the promotion of our region’s leagues and tournaments as well. Feel free to stop me and say “Hello” at any one of the aforementioned tournaments. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know our region and its bowlers better. As your leagues get under way and your 2005/2006 seasons get up and running please take time to welcome new bowlers and thank the officers and IGBO Reps for their hard work. I wish you the best of luck and much in the way of bowling prosperity.
