Hello all

Since the last newsletter we have had two tournaments here in the Southern Region.  The first tournament was FLIRT-Ft Lauderdale, January 18-20.  43 teams and 172 bowlers participated.  However, what made this tournament unique is that approximately 50% of the bowers were from all the other regions outside of the Southern Region.  The largest group of participates came from Orlando.  This was indeed a fun tournament and you all should consider attending it next year.  You can see all of the results by going to www.flirtbowl.com. The house manager said that FLIRT has consistently been one of their favorite tournaments so the FLIRT committee has entered into an agreement for multi-year tournaments to be held at their location.  They also had the largest payout for Scratch Masters in FLIRT history--due in part by generous donations of several bars and clubs.  Each winner got their money returned in full PLUS $100 extra dollars.  Also, a big hand of applause goes to George Graves, Gabe Him, Jay Buzzard and Michael Phillips for their hard work and dedication for making this year a NO-DRAMA, NO-COMPLAINT tournament.  Congratulations to Marlowe Dobarganes and all of his hard working committee for a great tournament

The next tournament in the Southern Region was GAGME-Tampa, February 8-10.  For the second year in a row this tournament filled before its deadline.  48 teams and 192 participates had the time of their lives.   The hospitality suite was a mini-casino with several casino type games being played allowing the bowlers a chance to try their luck.

The banquet was very entertaining and all of the bowlers had a wonderful time.  Congratulations to Rob McDaniel and Dave Bauer and their hard working committee for one of the best tournaments in the Southern Region.  Orlando was honored for their continual support over the years for the Tampa tournament.  In addition Pedro, the Orlando mascot was released from captivity bringing cheers from the Orlando crowd.

At GAGME, I held my regional meeting.  I was honored to have so many IGBO Committee members present.  Greg Edenfield, President of IGBO and former Regional Director was present.  In addition there was Mike Tamburrino, IGBO Webmaster and Co-Director of IGBO-Atlanta this coming Memorial day week May 21-26; Dr. L. E. McLemore, Corporate Sponsorship; and Skip George, Tournament Chairperson.  Also present at GAGME was Heath Costain, former Regional Director before Greg Edenfield.  This was a very informative meeting and I thank all of you that did attend and for the insight that all of the speakers brought to us.

Coming back to the Southern Region is IGBO Annual tournament to be held in Atlanta, May 21-26.  Atlanta is expecting to host 700 plus bowlers making it one of the largest IGBO tournaments in the history of IGBO.  In 1993, Atlanta hosted the IGBO tournament and over 900 bowlers.  This is a return of IGBO annual to the South since 2002 when it was hosted by Southern Florida with the cooperative help of Ft Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.  If you have not registered for IGBO 2008, you need to do so soon.  Atlanta is working hard to bring to all of the IGBO bowlers a tournament to remember. Their fundraising activities are going great and exceeding their expectations. You can register very easily online and even pay online.  Also, rooms at the host hotel are filling fast.  Go to www.igbo2008.org for all of the information you will need. Lets give Atlanta a lot of support from the Southern Region and make your Regional Director proud.  Also, I would encourage anyone from Southern Region that wants to advertise their tournaments or leagues, are free to do so within the Atlanta-hosted hospitality suite on Friday and Saturday night. For example poster, flyers, picture montages, etc. For more information on this, please contact directors@igbo2008.org.

Before IGBO Annual in Atlanta, is SIT-Orlando May 2-4.  Orlando also has grown over the last few years to 48 teams and 196 bowlers.  However, this year they are moving to two shifts and a new bowling house and their goal is to grow into the second largest tournament in the Southern Region behind Atlanta’s Dixie.  You can get all of the information you need by going to www.sitorlando.org for all of the information you will need

The last tournament in the Southern Region before the Fall is COPIT-Ft Meyers, July 4-6.  Their “Christmas in July” theme will take an interesting twist this year.   They are hoping to draw 48 teams which will be a huge improvement from last year’s 30 teams.  Make plans to attend COPIT this year.

Two tournaments taking place in the Fall and before the next newsletter comes out will be HIC-Huntsville and SPORT-West Palm Beach.  Make sure you check www.IGBO.org for information on these upcoming tournaments.

After some thought I have decided to run for Regional Director again.  My present term is up at IGBO Atlanta.  Thank you all for the support and encouragement you have  shown to me.  I hope I will continue to exceed your expectations.

I hope to see many of you at SIT in Orlando and of course, at IGBO 2008 in Atlanta.
