Hosting An IGBO Tournament

So you're ready to host a tournament in your area?

Hosting your own tournament can be very exciting and rewarding, but it's a lot of hard work! If you don't think so, just attend any IGBO Member Tournament and watch the committee members and volunteers - usually the folks that are not actually bowling! Better yet, ask a few of them; they'll tell you! Usually, anywhere from 12 to 24 months of preparation go into putting on a successful three-day tournament event.

USBC provides an excellent online resource for updated rules at its web site at http://www.bowl.com/rules/main.aspx . There is also a Tournament Managers Manual (PDF Format), an excellent source of information that includes specifics for anyone planning a Certified USBC tournament.

How about hosting an IGBO Annual or Mid-Year Tournament?

Locations for the IGBO Annual and Mid-Year Tournament events are chosen two years in advance by the IGBO Representatives during the General Membership Meeting. Prior to the actual voting, a committee from each interested city has already put in many long hours preparing their bid - lining-up bowling centers, banquet facilities and host hotels - all in expectation of being awarded the honor of hosting the event.

After winning the bid, these same committee members begin a two-year process of carrying out their proposal. The end result—the greatest IGBO Tournament ever!
